Almost thirty years have passed since the Rock Master company organised the first indoor climbing competition for the ‘Polish Cup – Tarnów “93” at the KS Tarnovia climbing wall. At that time, our company was one-man, the originator, organiser and builder of the first climbing walls in Poland was Mariusz Gołkowski. These were not only the first indoor climbing competitions in Poland, but also the first in general where you could climb on the ceiling.
The first place went to: Mateusz Kilarski, second by Yevgeniy Krwioszejcew, and third ex aequo by Jacek Jurkowski and Tomasz Samitowski.
The competition judge was Andrzej Marcisz.
The Rock Master company was established in 1990 and the initial objective of its activities was mountaineering training – rock climbing and mountaineering, as well as popularisation of climbing among children and young people. The first climbing walls were built at schools in Tarnów (e.g. in 1990 at the Klementyna Hoffmanowa Primary School in Tarnów), then at KS Tarnovia and in Kraków at Wrocławska Street – Tower. The grips could not be bought anywhere, so they were all handmade by Mariusz Gołkowski in his basement.
This is how we started. Nowadays we no longer make holds in the basement, but create innovative equipment for working at height in our Research and Development Centre in Balice.
